The first Tree of Tranquility in England, which was funded by Aidan's Elephants (with heartfelt thanks to the many families who have made donations and supported us over the last six years), was placed within the grounds of Airedale Hospital at the end of May this year. The Sunbeam Support Group midwives and parents continued their tireless and dedicated work in fundraising for and creating the beautiful Sunbeam Garden, which provides a tranquil, secure space for this very special sculpture, a meaningful place where families can visit to remember and honour their children. The Sunbeam Team are hosting a launch event of The Sunbeam Garden on Sunday the 14th of October at 12 noon, and warmly welcome everyone to gather in the garden to celebrate the joint achievements of so many generous families, the Sunbeam Team, Aidan's Elephants and SiMBA. This is a family event which children are very welcome to attend and refreshments will be provided. If you plan to attend, please kindly email Beverley Beaumont (Airedale NHSFT Bereavement Midwife) with the number of people. There is also a Facebook Event page you can respond to. Free parking has been arranged by the hospital for this event. Parking is situated at the back of the hospital. When you enter the hospital grounds, pass A&E and follow the perimeter road round to pass the old staff accommodation on the right. The parking, called 'The Beach', is situated on the furthest point to the right before the road bends to the left and up towards the West Car Park and Sunbeam Garden. If you need further assistance with where to park, please contact Beverley Beaumont. If you have ordered a copper leaf from SiMBA that you have yet to return, please ensure it reaches SiMBA before the 9th of October to ensure that it is attached to the Tree before the launch event. Leaves returned after the 9th will be bonded to the Tree at a later date. Click here for further information about the Tree of Tranquility, or to order a copper leaf. Today was a very special day, which we have been working towards, along with Beverly Beaumont (Bereavement Midwife at Airedale NHSFT) and Grant & Sara Fitzsimmons from the Scottish Charity SiMBA, for over five years. The Tree of Tranquility was installed within Airedale Hospital's Grounds today, in a secure, beautiful space which is being transformed into The Sunbeam Garden. The Sunbeam Support Group midwives and parents are working tirelessly to create a tranquil, meaningful surrounding for this very special sculpture.
