Butterfly Awards Nominations for Airedale Hospital Midwives..

9/9/2017

Earlier this year we (Aidan's Elephants) nominated both Airedale Hospital's Bereavement Team and Bev Beaumont (Airedale's Bereavement Midwife) for Butterfly Awards. The awards recognise and celebrate inspirational contributions to supporting families who have lost a baby or young child.  Both Bev and the Bereavement Team have been successful in being shortlisted. We would like to ask for your support in voting for these wonderful people, who dedicate so much of their time and love to supporting families who have lost their precious babies. You can find out more about why we nominated Bev and the Airedale's Bereavement Team below.

In the five years we have known Bev, her compassion, attention to detail and dedication to ensuring that every family who loses a baby receives outstanding care - has been truly inspiring.  Bev constantly goes over and above her duty, very regularly working in her spare time to support families and improve services. Over the past few years, Bev has been working on the idea of having a Baby Memorial Garden installed within the hospital grounds at Airedale. This year, all her persistence and hard work has resulted in Airedale Hospital's Sunbeam Garden beginning to take shape - an incredible achievement.

Bev's skills, kindness and compassion are second to none. She works tirelessly to make sure that there is support available to everyone who needs it, no matter when their loss occurred or what their circumstances of losing a baby are. This incredible woman and Midwife has nurtured not only the families she cares for, but the service as a whole - which she has expanded and improved to a level which is exemplary. Her dedication, hard work and love has left a lasting imprint on the hearts of every family she has helped. We are honoured to know her and work with her, but we are the luckiest to be able to call her a friend.

The Bereavement Team at AGH dedicate so much of their spare time to ensuring that AGH's bereavement services are outstanding. They realised that there was not a local support group for bereaved families, and set up The Sunbeam Support Group last year. There is always at least two AGH Midwives at the group meetings, and they attend in their spare time to ensure that families receive the best possible long term care. The team are always bursting with new ideas of how to improve their bereavement services, and work very hard to bring these ideas to fruition. At present, the team are working on an incredible project (mostly in their own time, outside of working hours) to create a Baby Memorial Garden within Airedale Hospital's ground. This project will mean so much to local families, and is a wonderful example of how much time, effort and love the team put into caring for bereaved families long after they have left the hospital. We are very regularly contacted by families who have lost a baby at AGH, and in the five years we have worked with the team, we have never heard anything but the very highest praise for them. We provide memory boxes for AGH, but without the outstanding care provided by the bereavement team, our memory boxes would be meaningless to parents. We can not thank them enough for all their hard work and dedication, and we are truly honoured to work with such an amazing team of people. Each and every one of them is truly deserving of an award which recognises everything they do for bereaved families.

Evie Conquers The Yorkshire 3 Peaks!

5/22/2017

Well done, and a HUGE thank you to ten year old Evie Eccles, who conquered her Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday the 20th May. Evie walked up the three peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, in an incredible 11 hours and 40 minutes. Evie's hard work and determination has raised over £800 for Aidan's Elephants in honour of her baby cousin Jack. Her Auntie Nicola Croden, who joined Evie on the challenge (along with her Dad, Matt Eccles and baby Jack's Dad, Rich Croden) has also raised over £100 in donations for Aidan's Elephants

Evie's Mum, Jo Eccles says:
"Evie helped her dad who struggled with his knees, and her Auntie who had just had enough. She kept them all going. Due to her Dad being in agonising pain, Evie's fab Uncle Richard took Evie to the finish line under the 12 hours that she had to beat. From what they tell me she was a super star and only complained once. You can see the pictures of her smiling in the heavy rain we walked through. I am super proud of her, as she is of herself."

Evie's 3 Peaks Challenge has been covered by the Keighley news.

What a superstar! Thank you so much, Evie. We are so proud of you, and hope you are very, very proud of yourself! What a huge achievement you have made, and what a beautiful thing you have done in your cousin Jack's memory. We can't thank you and your family enough for all your support.

Evie adds,
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has generously sponsored me and supported me on doing the 3 peaks challenge for Aidan's Elephants"

Donation in Honour of Baby Jack Croden.

5/18/2017

Ally and Rich Croden's son, Jack, was sadly born sleeping on the 27th of March 2017.  Jack's parents were faced with a task that no parent ever anticipates - planning their beautiful little boy's funeral. Jack's family decided to request donations for Aidan's Elephants at his funeral, and have given Jack an incredible legacy - by helping other families who have lost their little ones too.

Jack's Mum, Ally, says:
"We decided to donate to Aidan's Elephants because the memory box we received was amazing and will stay with us forever. The Sunbeam Suite made the hardest time of our lives just a bit more bearable, and gave us the time that we wanted with Jack."

Jack's family and friends raised over £700 for Aidan's Elephants - an amazingly generous amount which will go very far in supporting other families through the most difficult times of their life.

To Jack's family and friends - on behalf of the families Jack will help, and from ourselves - we can't thank you enough for your donation. £700 will provide 30 families with an Aidan's Elephants Memory Box, allowing them to create precious memories with their little one, before they have to sadly say goodbye.

Jack's parents would like to proudly share their little boy's photograph, which you can find under the 'read more' link below.

Fundraising: Evie's 3 Peaks in Memory of Baby Jack.

5/6/2017

Ten year old Evie is doing the three Yorkshire Peaks on the 20th of May, in memory of her baby cousin, Jack Croden, who was sadly born sleeping on the 27th of March 2017. Evie will be joined on the three peaks by her Dad, Matt, along with her Auntie Nicola and baby Jack's Dad Rich. She is fundraising for Aidan's Elephants, as Jack's family received one of our Memory Boxes.

To sponsor Evie, please email her Mum, Jo.

You can also make a donation directly to Aidan's Elephants here. Please email Jo (Evie's Mum) if you make a donation, so she can keep a running total of how much Evie has raised.

Thank you so much for your support, Evie. Good luck with your fundraising event!

Donation in Memory of Hope Rebekah McDade.

3/30/2017

These little footprints belong to beautiful Hope Rebekah McDade, born sleeping on the 13th of June 2016.
Picture

Since losing their little girl, Hope's family have been making sure that her footprints leave a lasting imprint on the world.

Hope's parents, Stuart and Rebecca Mcdade, recently won a loyalty card draw at The Red Lion Pub in Earby. They decided to double the winnings and donate all the money to Aidan's Elephants. The donation of £206 in Hope's honour will pay for ten grieving families to receive our Memory Boxes, giving each of them the opportunity to create beautiful memories and keepsakes with their little one.

Thank you so much to Stuart and Rebecca for all your support. What a beautiful legacy you have given your daughter.
