Support for Healthcare Professionals...
"All of the Airedale midwives that we had present during my stay there were fantastic, so compassionate and caring.
I felt like this was not just a job for them it was part of their life."
- A bereaved Mum talking about the care she received at Airedale General Hospital, after the death of her baby girls.
The care that bereaved parents and their families receive from healthcare professionals leaves a lasting impression on many bereaved parents and their families. The staff who support them before, during and after the loss of their baby, are a part of their child's story. It is so important that parents receive the support they need from staff during this highly emotional time. Which is why it is essential that midwives and other healthcare professionals feel supported to not just 'cope', but to confidently approach their role in supporting a bereaved family.
We are currently working on a section of our website which will provide healthcare professionals with information they may find helpful, especially if they have not had to deal with the loss of a baby or young child before. Please check back here shortly, or follow our Facebook and Twitter pages to be notified when this section is updated.
We believe that all healthcare professionals who may be asked to support a family that have lost a child, should receive bereavement training to enable them to feel confident in handling such a difficult, specialist situation. For healthcare professionals at Airedale General Hospital, we are able to offer Professional Education Funding for bereavement training. If you are a healthcare professional from another hospital or hospice, please contact our Big Sister Charity, 4Louis - who will be able to help you.
